Paraffin wax is a by product of petroleum

Paraffin candles release a petro-carbon soot that stains your walls, furniture, furnishings and is circulated throughout your home. This soot according to the American Lung Association, contains 11 documented toxins, two of which are known carcinogens——-Toulene and Benzene.

Some paraffin candle makers are still using lead core wicks ( down the centre of the wick is a central core that burns faster that the external so that oxygen is pulled in to keep the wick alight) which when heated emit lead particulates into the air, which can be inhaled. 100% of lead that is inhaled is absorbed into the bloodstream. Childrens developing bodies are particularly vulnerable. Chronic low-level lead exposure as seen with lead wick use has been found to produce permanent neuro-phsycological defects and behaviour disorders in children, including low IQ, short attention span, hyperactive behaviour and motor difficulties.

An air quality researcher David Krause, has documented evidence that candle soot particles contain many of the same compounds given off from burning diesel fuel.

In an edition of of the Emagazine,in an article titled “The inside scoop “, Kathleen O’Neil writes that a recent study of residents in both residential and industrial areas found chemical levels in the subjects bodies indicating they had recieved doses of pollutants in their homes five to 70 times higher than the highest outdoor levels.Burning candles are listed in the article as contributing their share of indoor pollution
